Glam Rock: a musical style

glam rock is a short form from “glamorous”
it’s also known as glitter rock (called glitter in the honour of Gary Glitter,an imp0rtant glam rock singer)
it appeared in the UK and it’s best time was between 1971-1974
its appearance was a consequence of the division of psychedelic rock into different styles
it was mixed with the best Pop from the ’60s
Glam rock has provocative lyrics, often with sexual reference
Glam rock singers dressed themselves in clothes with leopard printing, top hats, shining suits and often wore high-heeled boots and lots of make up
to used to play with sexual ambiguity and to show off a provocative attitude

There are other subgenres of Glam-rock:

Genius of Glam-this Glam gives satisfaction and profundity in the music and the lyrics; a lot of artists adopted this philosophy and sound. The Velvet Underground was the first group to adopt this style.
Shock Rock- was born in the USA and it’s a combination between Hard Rock and Glam; it was created by Alice Cooper
Opera Glam-mixes opera rock and opera glam , which had the same characteristics and were both popular at the same time
Others: Elton John, known for his eccentric image (he is considered to be “Fake Glam”)

Influences in the ’80s:

The Pop and the Rock in this decade had a heritance form Glam
lots of artists from Spain became part of the “Movida Madrileña”
it the ’80s it’s no longer called “Glam Rock”, but Glam Metal
the most important bands were: Bon Jovi, Kiss, Aerosmith, Twisted Sister

Queen: grup bio(1972-1983)

Queen was a band of classical rock and was born in Great Britain in 1970 when the group The Smile broke up. The group was composed by Roger Taylor(drums), Brian May(guitarist) and Freddie Mercury(vocalist),whose voice was very special. The band had the same bass player from the beginning until the end, John Dicon.

Queen is known as the best group in music history. Their work is very diverse.

The best songs of the group are “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We are the champions”, “We will rock you”, and “Another one bites the dust”.

In 1972 they worked on their first album named “Queen”
In 1977 Queen made the best musical tour in the USA
In 1983 the group took a break after years of work
In 1987 Freddie Mercury worked with Montserrat Caballé on the album “Barcelona”
The song with the same name, “Barcelona”, became the official song of the Olympic games in 1992.
In 1990 Queen received the prize for the most popular band from the`80s
On 24^th of November 1991 Freddie Mercury died in his house from London, at the age of 45.
In April 1992 took place a concert in Freddie Mercury’s honour
